Game Summary
When the HardBallers and their opponents, the B&W, were originally scheduled to meet in their final games of the season, the game had real playoff significance. A win would give the B&W a strong chance in entering the playoffs while a win for the HBs would give them a chance at a spot in the playoffs.
However, the game was postponed as a passing downpour soaked the field and made it unplayable. And so, a highly anticipated show-down ensued. But with the Sunday League playoffs right around the corner, and the win/lose stats being collected, it soon became apparent that the HBs would stand no chance in entering the playoff, resorting them to a spoiler roll.
As time went by, it would also be revealed that due to tiebreak rules, the best the B&W team could achieve with a win was 13th place in the league standings. With only the top 12 teams making the playoffs, this “best case scenario” would leave them one spot short in the standings. So on August 1, after three weeks of attempting to reschedule the game, and with the make-up game now having no post-season significance, B&W said they would NOT play the make-up game, resulting in a forfeit.
This forfeit gives the HBs their fifth win of the season, (second by forfeit), yielding a respectable 5-7 record for the season. Mother nature would celebrate the announcement by giving the team a red-colored moonlit night. (The Hood Airship was thrown in for good measure.)
